Update: Biyala Primary School on track to open in 2026

Preparations for the launch of Biyala Primary School are well underway, with founding Principal Shannon Cormack leading the charge as Armstrong Creek’s newest school prepares to open in Term 1, 2026.

“We are in the final phase of designing our uniforms and have commenced our search for staff,” Shannon said.

“The level of interest from educators wanting to join Biyala has been outstanding.”

The school recently appointed a Learning Specialist – a highly skilled classroom teacher who will focus on coaching, mentoring and supporting staff while leading the development of curriculum.

The Learning Specialist will begin in Term 4 this year to get a head start on preparation.

“Our interim school council has also been instrumental in supporting decisions, such as appointing an out of school hours care provider,” Shannon said.

Biyala’s identity is strongly anchored in its values of kindness, gratitude and excellence. The school’s logo reflects these values, and its motto – Lead with kindness, grow with gratitude and succeed with excellence – will guide the culture from day one.

Enrolments are open for families within the school’s catchment, from Prep through to Year 6. “We already have many wonderful families enrolled, and we are looking forward to welcoming their children into our community,” Shannon said.

Approximately 100 students are expected to commence in the foundation year, with enrolments forecast to grow steadily towards the school’s 650-student capacity.

Construction is nearing 80% complete, with the school buildings progressing rapidly. “The doors will be open for the start of the 2026 school year,” Shannon said. “Carpets are down, cabinetry is in, and landscaping is underway – the facilities look incredible.”

Shannon describes the project as a unique opportunity.

“This is a once-in-a-career experience. To contribute to creating an environment that truly reflects what children need and what will best serve our community is something very special.”
