Ashbury residents now have access to a Catholic Coeducational Secondary College on their doorstep following the recent opening of Iona College across the road from the estate.
The first cohort of Year 7 students commenced at the new facility on 3rd February, with 155 pupils having been enrolled for the school’s first classes in 2020. This number exceeded the original target of 130 enrolments for the foundation year.
Students are coming to Iona College from as far afield as Little River to the east and Meredith to the north. Many of the 2020 intake reside in the Torquay and Surf Coast region, whilst local enrolment from the Charlemont/Armstrong Creek area is anticipated to experience a huge increase as Ashbury and other nearby communities continue to develop in future years.
A special ceremonial event is planned for Sunday, 26th April where the Archbishop of Melbourne, Peter Comensoli will officially open the new college.
